Length: drabble/oneshot
Summary: Small accidents, big heart attacks.
A/n: an anon request. Thought it was interesting. Decided to write it.
Chanyeol gets out of his work room and notices something missing. It takes a moment but then he gets it. Baekhyun's not laughing. Why wasn't he laughing? He was always laughing. Always. About anything whether it was because Nugget tumbled or something slightly sexual just happened.
Walking to the kitchen, he sees Kyungsoo cleaning the countertops.
"Hey," he says, taking a seat on a stool. "What's Baekhyun up to?"
"Shouldn't you know?"
"I've been in the room all day. I haven't heard him around."
Kyungsoo shrugs. He supposes that it wasn't the man's fault he didn't know his fiance' whereabouts. "He took his car. Went driving somewhere. I don't know where."
"Kyungsoo, he's not supposed to drive."
"I thought you lifted this ban a long time ago "
"Yes, but I don't know where he's going so it's a little nerve wrecking."
Looking over at his employer, Kyungsoo snorts. "He's a grown man."
"That's arguable." He sighs. "Should I call him?"
"He's your fiance. Not mine."
Unfortunately, that was true. Chanyeol takes his phone from his pocket and hovers over Baekhyun's name for a while before pressing call.
He waits. And he waits. Then nothing.
Frustrated that Baekhyun was ignoring the call, Chanyeol ends it. Thinking nothing more of the matter, he gets up, goes to the fridge, takes out a drink and heads back to his office.
"Honest to god, you're going to drink a can of beer and WORK?"
"It's hot in there anyways. Turn on the air conditioner."
-
Something was really wrong. Chanyeol could feel it. When his phone finally rang at around seven, he was ready to blow his entire temper until the voice on the other end began talking.
-
"Where is he." It wasn't a question. It was a demand to be taken to wherever they put his fiance. "Byun Baekhyun. Where is he?"
The nurse hurries her job, slightly frightened at Chanyeol's demeanor, but Kyungsoo stands by reassuringly. "He's in Ward A, room 205. He'll be--"
Chanyeol doesn't wait, and Kyungsoo jogs after him, carrying a bag full of clothes and other things. They waste no time, especially Chanyeol who bursts into the room without knocking.
Baekhyun turns his head from the television and waves with one arm. His other arm was already secured with a caste and his forehead has a small bandage to it. It wasn't such a gruesome sight, but Chanyeol was still furious
"You ran a red light!?" Kyungsoo tries to shush him after closing the door but Chanyeol couldn't. "You're lucky you just got a little bruise and and broken arm. You could've died!"
"I didn't run the red light," Baekhyun defends, turning off the tv. "It was yellow. I went and the man in the other car was too excited to go and ran it and he just hit me."
"You're so stupid. I swear to god, Baekhyun--"
"Why is it my fault? I was in the legal right!"
Kyungsoo steps in. "Baekhyun, the doctor told us you're all ready to get checked out. We brought clothes."
"Oh, good! This thing was a little too breezy anyways."
Chanyeol narrows his eyes as Kyungsoo goes to put the bag near the brunette. Then without a second thought, he orders, "I'll dress him. You get the papers."
Knowing better than to argue, Kyungsoo nods and leaves.
Baekhyun swings his legs to the side, sitting up. "Stop being angry."
"How can I stop being angry when you're like this." Chanyeol says, moving to the brunette. "I told you that you couldn't drive."
"Chanyeo|, l had a very good reason."
"And what is that."
Baekhyun let's the man take off his hospital gown, leaving him naked. "I went to the strip club. Remember the one I went to months and months ago? I heard one of the girls was getting married so I had to go visit her."
He uses his free hand to hold onto Chanyeol as he put one leg into his pants and then the other. "We talked until she had to go, but I stayed backstage and mingled with a few people. All very nice people, Chanyeol. And then I--"
"Did you drink."
Blinking, Baekhyun looks at him. "Of course not."
At least that was good news. Chanyeol tucks in his fiance's parts and zips him up. "Why couldn't you just call this girl..."
"That's impersonal. I needed to congratulate her in person."
Chanyeol doesn't say anything. He just gets and shirt from the back and starts to gently put it on the brunette.
"She asked me if I was married already, and I said no..." Baekhyun pauses. "Why aren't I?"
"Why aren't you what?"
"Married."
Chanyeol looks at him and gets one arm in before carefully focusing on the broken one. "Because we settled for a long engagement."
"I forgot why."
"Because we never got to date. That's why," Chanyeol reminded him.
"Why can't we date when we're married..."
"Because that's just backwards."
"Don't you believe that once we're married, we have our entire lives to know about each other," Baekhyun says, making a face. "Whatever."
"Did that accident make you impatient?"
"No. I just saw a flash of light and realized life's too short."
The hand on his shoulder tightens and when he sees Chanyeol's eyes, he stops.
"What?"
"You saw a flash of LIGHT?"
"Chanyeol--"
"No more driving. Not without a chaperone or someone from the house with you," Chanyeol says sternly, folding the used gown.
"Why not? You know, you're really being a crusty senior citizen with this situation. I told you that I--"
"Baekhyun, what's the point of talking about marriage and dating if you're dead?" Chanyeol gives him a soft look. "I don't want to lose you. Like I said, you're lucky all you got was a broken arm. You could've died."
"But I didn't," Baekhyun says, smiling. "Accidents won't kill me."
"No, but I can."
"Yes, you will with your big hugs and kisses. Smother me with your love, sir--"
Annoys, Chanyeol pinches the boy's cheek. "I'm trying to be serious with you. No more fooling around."
"I'm sorry, okay?" Baekhyun says, rubbing his cheek. "I'll be more careful next time...Oh, but even if I died, we could still get married. Some people marry ghosts, you know. There're beliefs that--"
"I'm not going to be a lunatic for you."
"You kind of already are."
A knock on the door comes and they both turn their heads to Kyungsoo holding a clipboard. "Chanyeol, you need to sign this. After this, we're good to go."
Chanyeol takes the papers, and as he's signing away, he watches from the corner of his eye while Baekhyun's humming around. After signing, he was takes the bag and swings it on his shoulder, grabbing Baekhyun by his hand and interlocking their fingers.
"Let's go home."
"Can I drive?"
It was a joke. A shitty one.
"Not on your life."
