Chapter 40
The Definition of Jealousy

When twelve started to come around, Chanyeol walked the two of them over to the picnic area where they found Kyungsoo sitting alone at a table with Nugget on his lap. As they got closer, Kyungsoo lifted his eyes off from the dog, looked at them, and waved. As Nugget became more and more excited, Kyungsoo decided to set Nugget on the ground. Within a second, Nugget was running towards Baekhyun and Chanyeol lost hand contact with the male as Baekhyun detached his hand.

While Baekhyun picked up Nugget and danced with him as if they hadn’t seen each other in years, Chanyeol walked past him and took a seat next to Kyungsoo. He set an elbow on the table and leaned against his arm, giving Kyungsoo a tired look. “How’s it been?”

Kyungsoo shrugged as he ran a hand through his hair. “I’m actually having a nice time—Well, it’s kind of a hassle trying to figure out where to go next. Kris wants to go one way, Kai the other.” Sighing, Kyungsoo stretched his arms. “On the other hand, Nugget’s been a good dog.”

“Hn.” Chanyeol looked back at Baekhyun, who was on the ground messing around with Nugget. “Where’s Sehun?”

“Over there,” Kyungsoo replied, pointing in the direction of the food court where Sehun was ordering something at a booth as Kris and Kai stood around waiting for him to finish.

“Shouldn’t the dog be with him?” Chanyeol muttered. “What blind man goes around without his Seeing Eye Dog?” When Kyungsoo didn’t answer, Chanyeol sighed and called Baekhyun over. “Baek, what do you wanna eat?”

“I don’t know,” Baekhyun replied, raising his head. Looking at the where Sehun, Kai, and Kris were, he smiled. “I’ll see what’s there to eat.”

Picking up Nugget, Baekhyun quickly jogged over to Chanyeol and dropped the dog on his lap. Placing a kiss on his finger, Baekhyun gave Nugget an indirect kiss. For Chanyeol, he leaned forward and kissed him on the lips. After catching Kyungsoo looking at him, Baekhyun grinned and leaned over Chanyeol, pulled Kyungsoo by the shirt and kissed him quickly on the cheek as well.

“I didn’t want you feeling like a third wheel,” Baekhyun said.

“I was fine,” Kyungsoo replied, glancing over at Chanyeol’s expression. “I don’t need to be kissed—ever.”

Baekhyun gave him a lopsided smile. “Remind me to kiss you again sometime, then,” he said, laughing. Ignoring the look on Chanyeol’s face, Baekhyun pinched his cheek for a moment before turning on his heel. Then without another word, Baekhyun quickly walked towards the food court.

After a second, Kyungsoo let out a small laugh. “Casual as can be.”

“Kissing shouldn’t be something casual,” Chanyeol muttered. As Nugget stood on his hind legs and pawed at Chanyeol’s chest, Chanyeol had to sway his body to try and get away from the dog. In the end, Kyungsoo had to take Nugget away and place him on the table.

After brushing off his shirt, Chanyeol glared at the dog. “What about you?” he asked. “Are you having a good time, you free loading dog?”

“That’s not nice to say,” Kyungsoo said, rubbing Nugget’s back. “He’s been good.” Glancing at Chanyeol, he asked, “What about his dad? Has he been good?”

Unable to hold back the urge, Chanyeol smirked. “Extremely.”

“You haven’t done anything inappropriate have you?” Kyungsoo questioned with only a slight sense of interest.

Shaking his head, Chanyeol denied. “I’m not gonna fuck him in the restroom if that’s what you mean.”

“That’s good to know.” Taking his eyes off Nugget for a moment, Kyungsoo looked up. “Oh, well would you look at that?”

“What?” With his interest sparked, Chanyeol turned his head in the direction Kyungsoo was looking towards. When he saw a pair of girls, Chanyeol turned back around. “What about them?”

“They’re staring this way,” Kyungsoo muttered. Then he said, “Too bad Kai’s not here. He likes girls like them.”

Snorting, Chanyeol rolled his eyes. “How would you know?”

“He never fails to mention how much he loves the female sex to me,” Kyungsoo replied. “Especially when you’re having one of your nights with Baekhyun.”

Glancing back once again, Chanyeol noticed that they were indeed looking at them. “They’re probably thinking we’re gay.”

“We are.”

“But with each other,” Chanyeol added. Shrugging, he sighed. “Whatever. What the hell’s he doing?” he asked.

With his own two eyes, Chanyeol watched as Baekhyun whispered something in Kris’ ear as he did before, but this time, the smaller male unexpectedly patted Kris’ private area—an area where Chanyeol would’ve appreciated if Baekhyun never touched again. Then after the unnecessary pat, Kris pulled out his wallet and handed Baekhyun some money.

From Chanyeol’s point of view, it seemed like Kris paid Baekhyun to touch him, but then he realized that he had failed to provide Baekhyun money for food. Knowing that it was his fault, Chanyeol bit his lips and tried to contain himself. In his battle with his own self, Chanyeol became unaware that he was gripping and unconsciously pulling on Nugget’s leash. It wasn’t until Kyungsoo put a hand on top of his own that he snapped out of it.

“Calm down, Romeo,” Kyungsoo said. “Your Juliet has no boundaries, remember?”

Chanyeol frowned. “I wish he did.”

“Everyone does—Oh…Look handsome, Chanyeol,” Kyungsoo said as his eyes started drifting from Chanyeol. “Those girls are strutting their way over here.”

Rolling his eyes up towards the sky, Chanyeol mentally groaned before turning around and acting like he was surprised to see the girls. Smiling politely at them, Chanyeol and Kyungsoo greeted the girls, trying to get through what they had to say in order for them to go away faster.

“What would you like to order?”

Baekhyun looked up at the menu and tapped his fingers on the counter. As seconds began to pass, Baekhyun began to tap his foot until it seemed like his entire body was in tapping action. Then he slammed his palm down.

“What’s the calorie count of the large pizza and the extra-large pizza?”

“Does it matter?” Sehun said from behind. “They still make you fat.”

“Maybe you should get it, Baek,” Kai suggested. “Didn’t Chanyeol say he wanted you with a bigger ass?”

“Chanyeol can clog his arteries and die for all I care…” Baekhyun muttered as he remembered the remark. Thinking again, he sighed. “I don’t know what I want.”

Coming from behind, Kris towered Baekhyun and leaned over him. “He’ll take a salad and a cup of fruit.” When Baekhyun craned his head up, Kris smiled at him. “Fruit makes you taste better.”

Baekhyun opened his mouth to refute, but as the statement sank in, he wiggled his finger. “Oh, yeah.” Suddenly certain of what he wanted, Baekhyun nodded in agreement. “I want fruit. Please and thank you.”

Nudging Baekhyun on the back, Kris asked, “What does that boyfriend of yours want?”

Before he caught himself, Baekhyun was going to correct Kris. Chanyeol wasn’t his boyfriend—though he wasn’t really sure about what their relationship was at the moment. It genuinely felt like a real relationship, but neither of them had said anything that affirmed the feeling. In the end, Baekhyun let the word “boyfriend” slip. It didn’t bother him that Kris had referred to Chanyeol in that sense. It sounded nice in his ears anyhow.

“I don’t know what he wants.” Baekhyun turned around. “He didn’t tell me—oh.”

Interested in what Baekhyun had suddenly raised his brows to, everyone looked in the direction of their table. Sehun and Kris were the least affected, but Kai and Baekhyun were thrown into a loop. Kai had been eating a pizza slice, but paused when he laid his eyes on the girls giggling and smiling.

Baekhyun was the first one to snap out of the trance. Then he frowned. “I feel weird right now.”

Creasing his brows, Kris looked down at him. “How so?”

“I don’t know…” Baekhyun mumbled. Leaving his spot, he waved a hand at Kris. “Can you take my food when it’s ready?” he asked. “I’m gonna go ask Chanyeol what he wants.”

With lip curling up, Kris grinned as he watched Baekhyun make the excuse of food as his reason for intervening with the small group.

Nodding continuously, Chanyeol became tired of pretending like he was interested in that the girls had to say. Kyungsoo acted more genuinely. Often he would remark something relevant, unlike Chanyeol.

"And so," one of the girls said, making Chanyeol anticipate the end of the boring conversation, "we were wondering if you two could give us your numbers—"

"Chanyeol!"

For once, Chanyeol was relieved to hear Baekhyun's whining voice. The smaller male's presence popped bubble that created the awkward atmosphere in the area.

"What, Baek?

Baekhyun stopped in front of the table and blinked. "You forgot to tell me what you wanted—I didn't know what you'd like."

"Anything's fine?"

"Even ass-expanding pizza?"

Chanyeol nodding dismissively. "That's fine."

Feeling as if Chanyeol was briskly brushing him off, Baekhyun's smile faltered a bit. "Okay..."

As he was turned back, one of the girls started talking once more. Unable to hold his curiosity down, Baekhyun whipped around and tilted his head. "What're you talking about, by the way?"

The girls lost their smiles momentarily and looked at him. Then one of them said: "Sorry, but this is an A, B, D conversation. You can C your way out of it."

Chanyeol raised his brows, immediately darting his eyes to Baekhyun. He half expected the male to make some sort of witty comeback, but when Baekhyun staggered to find a redirect insult, Chanyeol thinned his lips. Just as he was about to speak up on Baekhyun's behalf, Baekhyun smiled—a smile that Chanyeol was well acquainted with.

"Do you need me to buy you some water? You seem desperately thirsty," Baekhyun said, taking a large chunk of his intended prey's pride.

With faces turned red, the girls left, grumbling derogatory terms aimed at Baekhyun. He wasn't deaf nor stupid, so he heard every insult. But, it didnt matter. He didn't care so much. All he knew was that he felt slightly better with that fact that no one was hovering over the giant.

Satisfied with himself, Baekhyun smiled more normally at Chanyeol and Kyungsoo. "You're welcome!" he piped quickly.

Before Chanyeol could question him about a few things, Baekhyun immediately turned away, speed walking back to the food stand. Away from Chanyeol's view, Baekhyun's face twisted in self-hate over his embarrassing confrontation and the confusing feeling that ate at him just moments before.

When he got back to the food stand, Kris had Baekhyun's salad and fruit all ready to go. Taking the items, Baekhyun thanked Kris. After a second, Kris asked: "What's with that face?"

Baekhyun glanced down for a moment. "Kris, what's jealousy?"

Kris gave him a skeptical look. "You don't know?" He scoffed. "How do you not?"

"I just don't know," Baekhyun said. As he watched Sehun take his food from the stand, he shrugged. "I didn't like the way they were on him—them. Chanyeol and Kyungsoo—Stupid smiling turd—Chanyeol, not Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo's smiles are the best—argh, idiot."

After nibbling in his lips for a second, Baekhyun huffed, threw Kris a look, and had him hold his things once more. "They told me to butt out of the conversation! 'It's an A, B, D conversation. You can C your way out of it,' she said—and I took a long time to reply! Punch me, Kris! Punch me in the face—I deserve it," he cried, scooting closer to Kris and grubbing at his clothes. "How embarrassing—I'm embarrassed. I stumbled and scraped my knees—metaphorically, but you understand right!?"

Trying to hold onto Baekhyun's salad and cup of freshly sliced fruit without dropping them, Kris nodded his head to appease the smaller male grabbing at his shirt. "Okay, okay. You're embarrassed. I get it. We all get embarrassed from second degree burns." Looking behind him, he saw Sehun and Kai watching them. "Let's go back. We have everything now."

"No," Baekhyun whined, leaning his forehead against Kris' arm. "I don't wanna see him—It's too soon. I'm still burned."

Giving Sehun and Kai an encouraging nod, Kris advised them to go ahead. Then he moved Baekhyun and himself from the stand and off to the side. "Okay, well, I'm sure Chanyeol doesn't care," he said, trying to soothe Baekhyun. "He'll still like you—maybe. I don't know. Everyone has those bad days—"

Baekhyun pulled back. "Kris, you're really bad at this."

"I'm more of a man of action."

"So am I," Baekhyun said, quirking his lips. "But I'd rather sit here than face him."

"Baek, jealousy makes you do things you'll regret later, okay?" Kris sighed. "You have to deal with it—well, or learn to."

"There's no such thing as jealousy in threesomes—or foursomes. Any type of orgy, really. You can't deal with that stuff or else everyone would be fighting over the biggest burrito in the bunch," Baekhyun sighed.

Giving Baekhyun a pat on the back, Kris hummed. "Right. Well, I guess you have to fight over Chanyeol's burrito now."

"I don't like fighting over his meat loaf," Baekhyun cried. "I don't have enough insults for that—"

"We should just go back. Chanyeol's making his way over here," Kris muttered as he watched Chanyeol start walking.

Alarmed, Baekhyun turned around and saw that Chanyeol was indeed headed towards them. Embarrassment set in once again and he pulled back. He glanced around for a moment before exclaiming his urgent need to go to the restroom.

Baekhyun jogged fifteen feet away, but then suddenly stopped. He ran back to Kris and took the cup of fruit with him, sticking an apple slice into his mouth. Then he left again, turning a corner and disappearing off on a path.

"Your eyebrows are unsymmetrical."

"Your voice is like punching God in the face."

"Your makeup doesn't match your skin tone."

"I'm prettier than you."

Baekhyun glared at his own reflection in the restroom mirror and bit off a pear slice. Angrily chewing on the fruit, he tapped his foot on the floor. "You're losing your touch," he muttered to himself.

Finished with the pear, Baekhyun reached in his cup and found that he had eaten everything. "Oh..."

With nothing else to grind his teeth against, Baekhyun left the sink area to throw away the plastic cup. When he turned back around, he was met with the sight of Chanyeol standing by the entrance. Casually, Baekhyun smiled at him. "Hi!"

Chanyeol didn't immediately reply. He crossed his arms instead. "Hey," he said slowly. "Having fun eating fruit in the restroom?"

"Yeah, but I ran out," Baekhyun said shrugging. He walked over to the exit and tried to side step Chanyeol, but whenever he attempted to, the giant would block his way. Smiling up, Baekhyun laughed. "Excuse me, giant."

“No,” Chanyeol said shaking his head. “What were you doing eating in here in the first place?”

Baekhyun glanced down and balanced on his heels, swaying back and forth. “I like the smell in here. I like the smell of stalls and—and of strangers.”

Chanyeol stared at him. “Baek, your lies have been going downhill in quality.”

Hearing Chanyeol comment on the slow decaying of his remarks, Baekhyun bit his lips, and then hung his head. “I know,” he mumbled. Grabbing Chanyeol’s hand, Baekhyun moved past him and started pulling him along. “My salad’s probably cold by now.”

Rolling his eyes, Chanyeol allowed himself to be carried out of the restroom, but as soon as they were out in the open again, he pulled against Baekhyun’s tug and stopped him. “Baek, come here. Explain to me why you were in there for twenty minutes.”

“Eating fruit.”

“Why were you eating fruit in the restroom?” Chanyeol asked again more demandingly.

“I like the smell of—”

“Baek, you don’t fucking love the smell of strangers in the god damn restroom,” Chanyeol groaned, squeezing Baekhyun’s hand. “Now tell me why the hell you were in there for so long.”

Quirking his lips, Baekhyun heaved his shoulders. “Why? Kris probably already told you.”

“I’m pretty sure you two weren’t talking about burritos and food,” Chanyeol remarked. After facing Baekhyun’s silence and stoic face, he ran a frustrated hand through his hair. “Was it the girls?”

“You mean the thirsty ones?”

Glancing upwards, Chanyeol sighed. “Yes, Baek. The thirsty ones.”

“No—” Baekhyun was quick to stop himself. He bobbled his head for a second as if thinking about it. “Yes—Kinda—Eh, I mean—Well, see I just, argh—Thirsty! Thirsty, but witty, Yeol!”

“Can you talk in coherent sentences?” Chanyeol snorted. Pulling Baekhyun along, Chanyeol began to take them back. When he felt Baekhyun tug against him a little bit, Chanyeol put an arm around him, forcing him to move along. “So in the next four minutes while we’re walking back to the table, you’re going to explain to me everything.”

“It all started when I was born—”

“Starting from when you came over,” Chanyeol clarified.

“Oh…”

It took Baekhyun thirty steps forward for him to start. Taking in a deep breath, he lifted his right hand and clutched Chanyeol’s shirt, tugging at his attention. He blinked up at the tall figure beside him for a little while before pursing his lips.

“Did you know that I want you?”

Taken by surprise, Chanyeol took a second to answer, trying to remain collected. “I suppose.”

“Life isn’t a sex orgy.”

Chanyeol didn’t know what to think about Baekhyun’s little philosophy. He wasn’t sure if he should agree that life wasn’t a sexual intercourse with other people. The logic passed over his head and he wasn’t sure what Baekhyun meant. Figuring that if he nodded Baekhyun would continue and explain, he did just so.

“So, it’s not a situation where I can share the same guy with someone else and not feel bad about it,” he said, lamely animating his left hand. “It’s not—See, in orgies, I can get triple penetrated by three guys, but after my five minutes are up, I won’t feel bad when they decide to gang up on another guy. In fact, I’d encourage it—Sharing is caring, you know.”

“Baek—”

“In that situation, I don’t have to feel bad about anything—about sharing,” Baekhyun said in a down voice. “But then I saw you with those girls and you were all smiles and laugh—Yeol, you don’t do that with me. It’s always frowns and that face you make right before you come—I love that face, by the way. You have no idea,” he said, tilting his head against Chanyeol’s arm.

“So what you’re telling me is that you were jealous...” Chanyeol said slowly, feeling a little bit excited.

“Maybe—I don’t know,” Baekhyun said, giving him a lopsided grin. “What is jealousy and what is love? A few things I don’t really know how to define or know about.”

“No,” Chanyeol said. “You know about them. You’re just unfamiliar with what they feel like—of course, that’s not to say that you’re not feeling them right now.”

“Maybe.”

As their table started becoming clearer and clearer to their vision, Baekhyun blew out a breath. “And then that girl made that remark about the alphabet…”

“I heard.”

“Yeol, I almost stuttered when I said that comeback,” Baekhyun whined. “I’m losing my touch. You’ve made me soft, I swear.”

“If anything, I’ve made you hard—on more than one occasion.”

“That was really sexual, you know,” Baekhyun muttered as he pressed against Chanyeol some more. “It’s fine, though. I like it.”

“Good.”

A small silence ensued for a moment before Baekhyun asked, “You’re technically my boyfriend, right?”

Chanyeol stopped walking and looked down at him. “If you’re comfortable with that...”

“But you’re my boss, too.”

“I’ll be your boyfriend before your boss.”

Baekhyun smiled. “Okay…boyfriend.”

Chanyeol groaned. “Baek—”

“By the way!” Baekhyun piped, cutting Chanyeol off. “I have an oven!”

“An oven,” Chanyeol repeated.

“And you have the meat loaf.”

Chanyeol creased his brows. “I have the meatloaf…”

“Now put your meat loaf in my oven, boyfriend!” Baekhyun laughed. “Cause it’s mine—my burrito meat loaf, you,” he cooed before releasing himself from Chanyeol’s hold and running the rest of the way back to the picnic area to rejoin his son.
